Hallowed Grounds Chazhu Regina
Of Fates & Fables (The Complete Series)Romy’s search for Regina takes a deliberately ordinary form at Hallowed Grounds: among coffee, scones, and friends, she uses a barista’s assumptions about her to obtain information she cannot ask for openly. James supplies Regina’s rental address, but Kash catches Romy in the act, so the discovery advances the investigation while making her secrecy impossible to maintain.
Returning to Hallowed Grounds
Walking into Hallowed Grounds feels to Romy like coming home. Talia and Lynch head for the counter, while Romy hangs back to scan the employees for someone familiar. Kash notices her pause and asks if she is all right. She spots James behind the counter, and the place’s welcome atmosphere acquires a second purpose: it is a setting where she can approach a source who has helped her before.
The search is not Romy’s first attempt to use James’s access to customer information. She remembers that her earlier effort was easier because she did not know the person she had been stalking would be sitting in a corner booth, watching her flirt with James, the barista who had a penchant for handing out customer information illegally. This time, the audience changes the task. Romy is nervous enough to chew at her lip while she waits for her order, and Kash’s presence makes a maneuver that once worked feel exposed from the start.
Asking James about Regina
Romy opens with a quick question, but James recognizes the pattern and raises his hands, warning her that he should not have told her so much the last time. She insists that she needs help finding another friend. Her wording keeps the real purpose of the visit out of the conversation: she does not openly identify Regina as a target of an investigation, but gives James a description and asks whether he knows her.
The identifying details are precise: Regina has dark hair, dark eyes, and tattoos covering her body. James understands whom Romy means. His amused response treats Romy’s interest as attraction to a bad girl, a misunderstanding she allows to stand. Romy plays along rather than correcting him, because the assumption gives her room to continue asking questions. The exchange is less a conventional interview than an improvised cover: her performance keeps James talking, while the information she seeks remains concealed from the people with her.
Kash’s attention makes the performance harder to sustain. As James confirms that he knows Regina, Romy feels the energy Kash directs her way tingle across her skin. She hopes James will finish before Kash intervenes, but continues with a practical question: whether Regina paid by credit card. James says she always pays cash. That detail first seems to close off the obvious route to identifying her; Romy’s shoulders sag at what appears to be another dead end.
The address and its cost
James then offers a different lead. A friend of his recently rented a house to Regina, and he writes the address on a napkin and slides it across the counter. He warns Romy to keep his involvement quiet, just as he had previously cautioned her about what he disclosed. Romy pockets the note and thanks him, recognizing that the information is useful. The clue is concrete but limited: it gives her a place to pursue, not an explanation of Regina’s activities or confirmation of what she will find there.
James’s final exchange returns to their familiar, teasing rapport: he calls Romy his favorite Zombie drinker and winks. Romy is on the verge of admitting that the only favor she expects to ask of him again is extra foam when someone’s hand lands on her waist and spins her around. Kash has discovered the encounter. His sharp look and promise that they will talk about it later turn the successful information-gathering into an immediate personal reckoning. From the corner of her eye, Romy sees Talia and Lynch doubled over with laughter; the scene’s comic embarrassment does not erase the risk of having covertly solicited help in front of Kash.
A lead, not a resolution
The episode ends with Regina’s address in Romy’s pocket and Kash’s objection waiting to be addressed. The contrast defines the scene’s small but consequential shift: Romy moves from searching for a way to locate Regina to possessing a specific rental address, yet the people closest to her now know that she has been acting without explaining herself. James’s information opens a next step, while Kash’s interruption makes clear that pursuit cannot remain merely a private errand. The event therefore advances the search without resolving it: Regina remains absent, the address has not yet been investigated, and Romy’s relationship with Kash must absorb the consequences of her initiative.
